Jeannie's Bio

I was born and raised in North Idaho when it was a little less populated than it is now. I attended college at the University of Idaho, where I completed a double major in Geology and Education and met my husband, also a geology student. After graduation, we moved to Northern Nevada for a one-month geology job. One thing led to another and we’re still here 22 years later. My husband is now a teacher and we teach at the same school. It’s not as boring as it sounds…we teach junior high.

We were fortunate to be able to raise our son and daughter in a ranching community where they attended a rural k-8 school with forty other kids in combined grade classrooms. Although we really aren’t that isolated, we do generate our own power, so our kids grew up reading more than watching television.

The kids are now out of the nest, off training to be engineers, so I lavish my attention on my many animals.  I have horses and ponies, which I tend to feed more than ride at the moment, but I’m hoping to turn that around soon.

When I’m not writing, I seem to be running.  My kids were both cross country runners and so I took up running.  I’m not fast, but I am steady. I run five or six 10Ks a year with my husband.  It always feels good to cross the finish line and I have plenty of time to think about my work in progress as I run—because it beats thinking “wow, look at all those people passing me”.  My other hobbies include reading, painting, hitching horsehair and buying hay.
